Privacy note

Short, because there is not much to describe. This site does not run advertising, does not sell anything online and does not store what you type into it.

The enquiry form

Submitting the form on the contact page sends what you typed to a script on this site, which turns it into an email to us and then discards it. There is no database and no copy kept on the website.

Two things travel with that email and are worth naming. The first is the IP address the message was sent from, included so that automated abuse can be dealt with. The second is a counter: the server briefly remembers how many messages have come from your connection in the past hour, stored as a one-way hash of the address rather than the address itself, so that nobody can use the form as a spam relay. Both exist to keep the form working, not to build a profile of you.

If the request cannot reach the server, the form falls back to opening your own email program with the details filled in. You can always write to [email protected] or call (202)929-4209 instead.

What we do with what you send

Information you give us by email or on the phone — your name, contact details, address and a description of the work — is used to answer your enquiry and to carry out the job. We keep records of work carried out, which is ordinary business record-keeping.

We do not sell contact details, pass them to marketing companies or add people to mailing lists. Where a job needs a supplier — ordering a specific piece of hardware, for instance — only what is necessary is shared.

What this site collects

The pages here are plain HTML, CSS and a small piece of JavaScript that handles the menu, the reveal animations and checking the form is filled in. There are no advertising trackers and no analytics scripts.

Two things are worth naming honestly. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers when a page loads. And the web host that serves this site keeps standard server logs, as every web host does. Neither of those is something we control from within the pages.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own. Nothing here needs one, which is also why there is no consent banner in your way.

Identification we ask for

Before opening a door or changing a lock we ask you to show that the property or vehicle is yours. We look at those documents to satisfy ourselves; we are not collecting them as a data set.

Questions

If you want to know what we hold about a job, or you want it removed, write to [email protected] and say so. This note describes how the site and the business currently operate and will be updated if that changes.

Questions about any of this?

Email or call and ask. It is a short conversation.
