Northwest DC
Petworth, Brightwood, Manor Park, Columbia Heights and 16th Street Heights. Porch-front row houses, English basement apartments and a lot of hardware fitted in the 1930s.
Northwest in detailCoverage
The District is our working area. Nearby Maryland and Northern Virginia addresses depend on the day, the distance and what the job involves, and we would rather say that plainly than imply we are everywhere.
The shape of the city
Washington is laid out as a diamond divided by North Capitol Street, East Capitol Street, South Capitol Street and the National Mall. Every street number repeats across all four, which is why the two letters at the end of an address are not decoration.
The shop sits at the eastern end of Kennedy Street NW, a block from North Capitol, close enough to the line that we work both sides of it constantly. From there, most of the District is a straightforward run: south through Petworth and Columbia Heights, east into Brookland and Trinidad, or down to Capitol Hill and the waterfront.
When you get in touch, give the full address including the quadrant. It is the single most common cause of a locksmith arriving at the wrong door in this city.
Pages by area
These are the areas where the buildings are different enough to be worth their own page. Each describes the hardware we actually see there rather than repeating the same paragraph with a new name in it.
Petworth, Brightwood, Manor Park, Columbia Heights and 16th Street Heights. Porch-front row houses, English basement apartments and a lot of hardware fitted in the 1930s.
Northwest in detailBrookland, Edgewood, Woodridge, Trinidad and NoMa. Detached houses with side doors alongside new buildings that run entirely on fobs.
Northeast in detailSpanning NE and SE around Lincoln Park, Eastern Market and Barracks Row. Original mortise hardware and doors that move with the seasons.
Capitol Hill in detailFederal-period brick houses, heavy timber doors, historic review on anything visible from the street, and streets that were not designed for vans.
Georgetown in detailSouthwest and Southeast beyond the Hill — the Waterfront, Navy Yard, Congress Heights, Anacostia and Bellevue — are covered too. They do not have their own pages because we would only be repeating what is already on the residential and commercial pages.
Beyond the District line
Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Hyattsville, Mount Rainier, Arlington and Alexandria all sit within reach of Kennedy Street, and we do work in them. What we will not do is list them as though each one had an office.
Whether we can take a job across the line depends on three things: how far it is, what the work involves, and what the day already looks like. A rekey in Takoma Park is an easy addition. The same job in Alexandria during a full day of District calls may not be. Give us the address and we will answer straight away rather than book something we cannot reach.
Washington DC Locksmith operates from 1 Kennedy St NW. Every neighborhood and town named on this site is somewhere we travel to. None of them is a second location, and we would rather be plain about that than pad a footer with towns.
Questions and answers
No. There is one address: 1 Kennedy St NW, Washington, DC 20011. Everything else on this page is somewhere we drive to. Any locksmith listing a dozen local addresses is worth a second look.
Distance is one of the things that goes into a quote, so ask when you call and it will be included in the number you are given rather than appearing afterwards.
Upper Northwest and the Northeast side of North Capitol, simply because the shop is on the line between them. That said, Capitol Hill and Georgetown are regular enough to have earned their own pages.
Yes, and it is worth asking first. Give the street, the quadrant and the nearest cross street. We will say yes or no rather than take the booking and work it out later.
We will confirm whether we can reach it before anything is scheduled.
